The investigation concluded that while a captain of the defensive unit Vilma assisted Coach Williams in establishing and funding the program. Multiple independent sources also confirmed that Vilma offered a specific bounty -- $10,000 in cash – to any player who knocked Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner out of the 2009 Divisional Playoff Game and later pledged the same amount to anyone who knocked Minnesota quarterback Brett Favre out of the 2009 NFC Championship Game the following week (played on January 24, 2010). Vilma is eligible to be reinstated after the Super Bowl in 2013."

That's great. Goodell talks the talk and back that up with action. 1 year is the minimum this fool should be receiving.
Of course he will ask for pity, try to deflect the blame away from him, but what else is new in today's world.
Vilma broke the rules and whomever those "independent sources" are did the right thing by being honest with NFL investigators.

In addition, the NFL said that Hargrove told at least one player on another team that former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre was a target of the Saints' bounty pool in the 2009 NFC Championship Game and that Hargrove obstructed the league's investigation in 2010 when he wasn't truthful with investigators.

Seau's apparent suicide comes only weeks after former Falcons safety Ray Easterling died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Easterling had been diagnosed with dementia; fellow ex-NFL players Andre Waters, Shane Dronett, Dave Duerson, and Tom McHale were all found after their own suicides to have had chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease caused by multiple head injuries.

Duerson also died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, the method chosen so as to preserve his brain for CTE research.

The USC alum is the eighth member of the 1994 Chargers Super Bowl team to have passed, including fellow linebackers Lew Bush, David Griggs and David Miller, RB Rodney Culver, C Curtis Whitley, DE Chris Mims, and DT Shawn Lee.

How Much Would You Pay For Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl Ring?

(CBS News) On Wednesday, the New York Giants received their Super Bowl XLVI rings at Tiffany's in Manhattan.

Less than 24 hours later, Lawrence Taylor - one of the franchise's most iconic players and tragic figures - put his Super Bowl XXV ring up for auction. The Hall of Famer is apparently seeking between $75,000 and $100,000 for the piece of jewelry, according to CBSSports.com.

Billed as a "phenomenally important memento from one of the greatest football players of all-time," L.T.'s 1991 ring went up for sale Thursday on the SCP Auctions website. The size-12 ring features a pair of football-shaped diamonds surrounded by 17 smaller diamonds. Taylor's name is engraved on the interior band.


The website, which says the ring will be open for bids until Saturday, also notes that "the ring shows considerable wear, that in some eyes, only enhances it aura."

As of Thursday afternoon, the highest bid was over $67,000.
