Jim McMahon didn't play forever because he thought he'd end up with early onset dementia, but here we are.

You know damn well I wasn't happy to see Peyton go. I took it as hard, or harder, than anyone. If it were up to me, he'd still be starting for the Colts, with Luck on the bench. I hoped that would happen but it wasn't meant to be. But after a few months to think about it and truly look at it from a level headed perspective, this was really the best thing for all parties. Fact is, we were not going to win a Super Bowl this year with Peyton Manning or anyone else at QB. The roster needed a complete tear down. I don't think Peyton would have wanted to be a part of a rebuilding team. And this gives us the chance to develop our young QB and build a winning team for the future. I wanted more than anything for Peyton to retire as a Colt, but it wasn't meant to be.

Lastly, I don't see Luck as a bust. I give that a zero percent chance. But you'll notice I NEVER said he was the next Peyton Manning. I've always said Peyton was irreplaceable, which he is. Luck is not the next Peyton Manning. No one is.

Peyton will always be a Colt. He's a first ballot hall of famer, as a COLT. All the memories he has here can never be replaced or taken away. One day he'll come back to the house that he built to get his well deserved farewell from Colts fans, be inducted into the Ring of Honor, and see his statue that will sit outside the stadium. Doesn't matter what ANYONE outside of Peyton's situation says. Me, you, or anybody else, whether they're a doctor or not. They don't have insight as to Peyton's situation. Only his doctors do. I've never in my life seen a doctor diagnose someone without actually examining them for themselves. I can't even begin to understand why someone without even any medical background would want to do so. To say that Peyton shouldn't play again because he had a "serious" injury and surgery, which you happen to know exactly zero about, is just stupid and ignorant. It's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I trust Peyton's doctors, his family, and his advisers to help him make that decision. He's not the type to go out and recklessly risk his life over a football game.

Even before the injury, his neck was having issues and the injury was only a matter of time. I didn't say his neck was better than it was 20 years ago. Even before the injury, his neck had deteriorated and the injury was inevitable. It was building up for probably 4-5 years. So yes, his neck is definitely better than it was pre-injury.
