Chicago has a LOCAL ban. You realize all the guns come from OUTSIDE Chicago? They traced many of the guns in Chicago to a gun store in IL so they were illegal straw purchases!
If you had a nationwide ban it would certainly work since it works in every other nation! The Supreme Court has ruled that you can most certainly restrict the kind of gun you have you just cannot ban guns outright but you can ban certain types!
Again, you keep talking like a nationwide ban is possible. It's not nor is it even on the table. Your own point about the Supreme Court proves that point. With it not possible as you just pointed out, why do you keep talking about how it would work and it works other places? The question on gun type restriction boils down to would it have any real impact. It might make people feel better but ultimately it would not help.
There are many things that would work to improve things that all have to do with access, education and personal accountability. Cultural issues and the need for mental health reform also factor large into this. Again, don't come back with none of that's needed if there were a nationwide ban because as you yourself just acknowledged, that's not possible.
This is not how the process works, but let's say a Congressman put out a bill to add a constitutional amendment that would overturn the 2nd amendment and offer that nationwide ban you reference. How many votes do you think it would get from the Democrats? Aside from the constitutional issues that exist, neither party has any support for that.
