This weekend is when ARod should be looking for results and getting his
timing improved.
That's fair and I know he has to get his at bats in and get his timing back before drawing any conclusions. He was down in extended spring training for a bit prior to going to the minors though I know thats a bit different than the real deal. Basically, I'm just hating on him though I seriously don't have any expectation of production from him.

For me, I think the Yankees have to put him at the DH slot for the rest of his career, pending he has any career left that is. I don't get, unless they want him to stay hurt, why they are trying to get anything out of him at 3rd and adding that wear and tear on him. I'd focus everything on getting whatever they can out of his bat and get someone else for 3rd.

I'm hoping he contributes to the season if he is allowed and able to play but I just don't see it.

Yankees don't have anybody else to play 3rd.
Youk was signed to assume that role & he is out for the year.
David Adams was called up and he started off well, but cooled off and turned into a .200 hitter.
Others have been called up to fill the role but none of them will be able
to produce at the plate like ARod.
Yankees are in a very difficult spot with 2 "very old" players at SS + 3B.
Usually these situation work themselves out.
I.E. Jeter back on the DL with a strained quad.

Still they owe him $100 million dollars and I'd protect that investment and more importantly try and maximize his production. Adams is clearly not the answer but I don't think ARod is either at this point. Agree completely about the need that they seem to perpetually find themselves in to keep the DH spot somewhat unassigned so they can rotate their old players but I still go with maximizing ARod. If they can do that and he can be more than a shell of himself as a hitter, its worth it to me.

They keep talking about Nunez at third--perhaps that is what they should focus on for the future.

I think the Nunez at 3rd talk went out the window in late 2012. All of this year he has played SS. In the majors and minors. Yankees seem to think e can play SS at the big league level and they are convinced he will never be a utility player.

Cashman was saying last week they are considering trying him at third once Jeter is back full-time at ss. Not saying that makes sense considering he hasn't played any 3B this season but they are thinking aobut it.

Point taken. I have often thought it must be less than interesting coverage for those not fans of the Yankees or Boston. MLB's TV and radio station give considerably more balanced coverage as one would expect I guess.

Speaking of ESPN--they shut down their forums this week. Not sure if any of you ever posted or lurked over there but the NFL board was nuts. They had changed formats a year or so ago and none of the boards there were ever the same. Not sure if it was part of their cost cutting process they are undergoing or if they didn't think it good to be associated with some of the crazy nonsense that got posted there, but interesting none the less.

Half the reason I don't post a lot, should change the title to Boston VS NY.

Clicked on a few youtube vids and relived some of Pedro Martinez antics. When the Dodgers brought him up I said he's going to turn into a great pitcher and be around for a long time.....Traded a year later for Delino DeShields and still considered one of the worst Dodger trades ever.

ARod diagnosed with a Grade 1 Quad strain. Arod will not make season
debut vs Rangers next week.
Odd that he has the same injury that has Jeter currently on the DL.

Ryan Braun suspended for the remainder of
the 2013 season.
Admits PED use and issues apology to team and fans:
Image

Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig announced today that Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has been suspended without pay for the remainder of the 2013 Championship Season and Postseason for violations of the Basic Agreement and its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension of Braun is effective immediately.

Ryan Braun said: “As I have acknowledged in the past, I am not perfect. I realize now that I have made some mistakes. I am willing to accept the consequences of those actions. This situation has taken a toll on me and my entire family, and it is has been a distraction to my teammates and the Brewers organization. I am very grateful for the support I have received from players, ownership and the fans in Milwaukee and around the country. Finally, I wish to apologize to anyone I may have disappointed – all of the baseball fans especially those in Milwaukee, the great Brewers organization, and my teammates. I am glad to have this matter behind me once and for all, and I cannot wait to get back to the game I love.”

“We commend Ryan Braun for taking responsibility for his past actions,” said Rob Manfred, Executive Vice President, Economics & League Affairs for Major League Baseball. “We all agree that it is in the best interests of the game to resolve this matter. When Ryan returns, we look forward to him making positive contributions to Major League Baseball, both on and off the field.”

And my previous post about Garza possibly going to the Rangers is official.

Cubs get Mike Olt, CJ Edwards, Justin Grimm, and a PTBNL.

Cubs fleeced them!

Glad they nailed Braun. A bit dissapointed that the suspension wasn't more like 100 games but at least there isn't a chance he beats it this time. I wonder how quickly the others fall in this. Alex?

Aaron Rodgers tweeted last year that he would bet this year's salary that Braun was innocent.
Wonder if he'll pull a p13?
Braun said last year that he would bet his life that PED's never entered his body and if they had, he would be the first person to admit it.

Braun is getting off so easy.
He will only lose 3% of his upcoming salary. Big deal. What is 3% and
65 games going to do? NOTHING.
His team is already out of contention. A stiffer penalty would have been more $$ taken away and enough games so that he misses the beginning of
the 2014 season.

The media makes me laugh. They continue to say how the MLB PED/Steroid Policy is working
Braun getting nailed had nothing to do with the MLB system. Had to do
with Biogenesis and someone named Tony Bosch.

I agree and would have liked to see Braun get at least 100 games but we don't know the evidence involved etc. so it may have been in MLB's interest to just get it done. As one of the Yahoo articles mentioned, Braun was barely mentioned in the initial stuff so they may not have the chain of evidence that they do on others.

The unfortunate thing with Braun is that say Melky and Colon will very likely get 100 games unless they can show that their previous failed tests were the Biogenesis stuff. That will be jacked since Braun beat that test and its technically his first offense. Not a lot MLB can do about that though and I don't feel the least bit bad for Melky or Colon just saying once again Braun running that scam on his last test has enabled him to get away with just getting the 65 games.

Plus, getting his admission gives credibility to Bosch and will likely mean a whole lot less appeals in general. I'm sure some agents and players are speaking with MLB today in that regard.

To your other point--testing is clearly not fool proof but that is certainly not just an MLB issue. Track and field and cycling operate pretty thorough testing programs and have far harsher consequences attached and we know people are still doing it and getting away with it. To their credit, MLB is far ahead of the NFL and NBA in their approach. They were late to the party for sure but at least we are seeing them try to do the right things now.

Yep. Not a Dodger fan in the least but glad for Mattingly. Saw Torre go through that "fire the manager" routine over and over when things didn't start out well and as is the case with the Dodgers, sometimes being patient works a lot better than pushing the panic button. I'm sensitive to that having seen the Yankees run through managers like McDonalds does head cashiers pre Torre.
