Re: The NFL Thread
I didn't see it, but I don't blame him. The defense was dominant until Cushing went out. At halftime they'd given up something like 80 YDs and half of that was off one PI penalty. They did their job. They had that game won.Crazy Levi wrote:JJ Watt is fucking bloodied and pissed the fuck off. His post-game was scary.

Nice seeing the giants and eagles lose.. Damn, fucking Raiders can't do anything right..
That's right. BIG GAME on Sunday Night Football.
Anybody who wants to blame Romo for the Dallas loss yesterday is a moron.
The Defense let the team down yesterday. Linebackers were getting burned by running backs and tight ends catching passes for TD's.
Rivers was really, really good and kept the Dallas offense off the field
for almost all of the 3rd quarter.
Up 21-10 shouldn't guarantee a win, but giving up 20 consecutive points is just unacceptable.
Fucking scary Denver is coming to town on Sunday. Maybe Dallas should feel fortunate the game is at home and not in Denver.

When in the history of football has a team preferred to play on the road?

True, but at least they don't need an immediate replacement like it was looking they might.tin00can wrote:demolition23 wrote:Well, nice to see another good performance from rivers this year. He's 3-1 solid starts, which, after the last two seasons, is a relief. Of course, Gates being healthy for the first time in three or four seasons helps.
Team itself is 2-2 and no chance in the division with both Denver and KC looking solid, but at least it's been entertaining so far. And wins over the the Cowboys and Eagles are nice too - two teams who get more press for 6-10 seasons than San Diego ever would for going 13-3.
Of course, when we wind up 8-8 and outside the sweet draft picks I doubt the season will amount to much - but at least we might not need to draft a QB just yet.
This team is...slightly different that the Chargers of the last few years. Each game has been close but they've actually finished two of them. That Houston game was such a motherfucker and it could have doomed the season but they've bounced back a little bit. They won today with a patchwork O-line. Rivers keeps throwing those goddamned pick-sixes but has still managed to look good. I agree with your assessment, they'll probably be middle of the road and not get a top-shelf draft pick but can still do good. However, it's never too early to think about the next QB. Wouldn't hurt to have somebody waiting in the wings...
Also, only 2 int in 4 games, two of which he passed a lot in, ain't so bad.

There has been horrible QB play everywhere.
At this point the one QB I'd want is Brady, Brees, Rodgers and Peyton. Everyone else is either hit or miss to downright bad.

Come on John, Cutler's flashes are always followed by the toilet flushing. He's a model of inconsistency. The Bears need the Run and a Defense cause they won't do it with his arm...Brain.

If you're talking about right now exclusively, you've got to say Rivers is good right now. 11/1 TD/ints, some big touchdown games, some big yardage games. Only one mediocre performance but the team was still in it.johnk5150 wrote:I'm not defending Cutler. I'm saying there are 4 good QBs right now. See above.
Will it last? Maybe not, but there aren't very many teams that wouldn't take his first quarter of the season over what they had.

I don't think anyone knew what Brees would become. Especially considering that he was coming off a torn labrum. It's not like there were a slew of times banging on his door when he became a free agent.johnk5150 wrote:Do Chargers fans know what they had in Brees?demolition23 wrote:If you're talking about right now exclusively, you've got to say Rivers is good right now. 11/1 TD/ints, some big touchdown games, some big yardage games. Re: The NFL Threadue
Kind of a silly question given everybody knows how great Brees has become, and also not that relevant to the point I was making, but yeah, that's pretty much it. I wasn't happy when the let him to like they did, but nobody knew what would happen next for sure, and who knows if it would have happened in SD anyhow?
Besides, Rivers has had better years as Chargers QB than Bree's did as chargers QB.
So yeah, while it sucks in retrospect, I don't think it ranks as one of the all time awful decision based on the information they had at the time.

Rivers on paper was the right choice for the Bolts, it's the supporting cast that's missed. Bree's blew the fuck up and never looked back, didn't see it coming. Didn't think he's last this long either.demolition23 wrote:Besides, Rivers has had better years as Chargers QB than Bree's did as chargers QB.

Don't forget that a factor in the Chargers' decision was that Brees was coming off two major surgeries on his arm.
