Fucking amazing. Easily a top-ten show for me. Jimmy is such an amazing singer and he still sounds amazing after all these years. I might have liked Velvet Revolver if he had taken that gig.

Opening act was awful. I can't remember the guy's name, but I got the sense that he came from money.....because he was not good, his songs were mediocre at best, and he had the most ridiculous cliché rock outfit on that I have ever seen (that probably cost a pretty penny to try to look so trendy). It was worth suffering through his set to hear Jimmy's.
Cool to see another OURS fan. I've been a huge fan since Distorted Lullabies, saw them too many times to count over the years. However, I've lost interest in them/Jimmy Gnecco, his new music sucks hard, and I've stopped going to any shows even though he's played like 30 min from me.
His voice is amazing....but I agree about the decline in the quality of the music over the years.

Distorted Lullabies is amazing. The next album had a couple decent songs on it, and then the same with the one after that. No where near the quality of the debut.

Then 'The Heart' came out, and I pretty much lost interest. I Heard You Singing is a fantastic song....but the rest was pretty much forgettable.

I've listened to a few things here and there, but not much. But when I saw he was coming around, I decided to check out the show. I'm glad I did, because live, he delivered.

Accurate review, I go fairly often.
My hack for the seats is if it's 3 or 4 people, I get the high tops in back, as it's 4 to a table. Yea, I don't love the high top but you aren't stuck in the middle w/people you don't know, you can see fine & it sounds the same as up front. If it's 1 or 2 people, I go with the 2 seats across from each other at the front of any section. This way you aren't technically sitting with anyone as you can turn your seat to face the stage & it's easy in/out as the aisle is right in front of you.

I do like the back room, as well. Anything I've seen there is usually sparsely attended & plenty of room to move about & sit.

Correct, the food is terrible, we always eat elsewhere. Plus, eating food whilst watching/listening to music doesn't work for me. Once in a while we'll get coffee & dessert, which isn't awful.

My other gripe is the price is higher on the alcohol & lower on the portions than your average place. I get it, but a weak margarita in a 10 oz glass for $18 is a rip off. We generally stick with the wine which, if you get their CW brand, is fair and quality.

One thing I do love, if it says the show starts at 7:30, it starts at 7:30. Not 7:29 or 7:31.
WTF is this about? You're going to a "rock" show and you're sitting down at a table and having desserts? And complaining about their quality? FFS, that's not a rock show, just get yrself a (tobacco) pipe and slippers and sit at home in your rocking chair shouting at local kids to get off your lawn.
They are acoustic shows in the small room. No one is standing and I wouldn't call it a 'rock' show.

The big room has more rock shows, but it is filled with tables so there is no room to stand.
The big room has acoustic shows, as well. City Winery is more of a "listening" situation. The stage lights are minimal & I've never once seen any artist bring "stage dressing" of any kind. When the CW person gets on stage to welcome you, point out the fire exits etc., they tell you to keep your conversation to a minimum as "this is a listening room". I get it, it's not for everybody, but I love the place.

8/22/24 Magdalena Bay @ Amoeba just keyboards and vocals (usually tours as full band), not bad and there was actually a crowd there. Most instores are pretty dead now.

8/23/24 Carnage Asada @ Anna Broome Room - nice early set in an art space, which is preferable to standing by myself in a bar for 3 hours waiting for them to go on. Great local band.

8/24/24 Jesus Jones @ Whisky A Go Go scratching one off the very top of the bucket list, great set, would have preferred a better venue. They played my favorite song Idiot Stare. More people were excited to hear The Devil You Know the lead single off Perverse, the follow up to their hit and one of my favorite albums ever.

I had a few shows on my calendar the next day but was pretty worn down and still needed time to reflect on the previous night so I watched the 5pm livestream of Mike Watt & Missingmen from the Redwood and went to Brand Park

I saw Ride (British 90's shoegaze band) play in a big festival tent here yesterday. They played their Nowhere and Going Blank Again records live completely for the first time ever. This was a one off set, looks like they played normal sets elsewhere. It worked well, except for the few filler songs on the albums. Luckily there weren't many. Band's lead guitarist Andy Bell was the last Oasis bassist, if he's involved in their reunion, who knows what's Ride's future. Ride got back together after Oasis split. Good gig anyway.

Sleek retro Def Leppard review 1988:

Welp, it was another fun day. DL sold out two nights at the enormo dome. When I showed up for lunch today, somebody had bought a sheep and put it in a pen backstage with a target spray painted on its butt and the word "DAVE ONLY" next to an arrow pointing at its anus. I asked, and it was Dave's birthday (He was on sound crew). Production manager Charlie Hernandez, a 250 pound Puerto Rican man who had taken to carrying a 2 FOOT LONG DOUBLE ENDED DILDO OVER HIS SHOULDER as a symbol of power made sure to tell everybody this fact.

While I was breaking down after the opening set by L.A. Guns, I saw Robert Plant backstage. He was dressed as a pirate with an eyepatch and everything. He was using this as a disguise so he could help push the Def Leppard band members to the stage in the rolling laundry hamper-things the hid in so they could get through to the in-the-round stage. As Phil Collen and Steve Clark were being put into one, he said: "Don't worry lads, it's an old Led Zeppelin trick" with a suspicious amount of glee.

I remember thinking he waould have been less noticable if he HAD NOT BEEN DRESSED AS A PIRATE, but, you know, he was Robert fucking Plant. Who was I to say?

Since we were in the same town for two days, after the show was something called a MINGE PARTY, wherein Def Leppard had bought out an entire strip club for the night for both bands and crews. Drinks were free and the girls were enthusiastic. I randomly brought nitrous oxide whippets and balloons and was giving them to all and sundry. At some point, Charlie was like: "WHAAAAT? Nitrous???" inhaled an entire balloon and laughed his ass of in athat weird low nitrous voice: hawww hawww hawww".

I, of course, ended up going home with one of the strippers. Because I was in a phase, I broke a bunch of those glass cases that you put fire extinguishers in by punching them at her apartment building. (I wore leather gloves at the time, because I found I woke up with fewer cuts on my hands if I did). We engaged in several acts of sexual congress that night and knocked over a lot of the furniture in her place while laughing about it. TURNED out her room-mate was a giant dude who worked security at the enormo dome, and he was asking around about the guy that wrecked his place the next day. While hungover, I insured him that I had never met that guy, but if I did, I would let him know. Eventually he figured it out, but had no hard feelings because he had decided I was an okay guy by then...so...logically, I banged the stripper who was his room-mate again after the show, tho this time it was in a random backstage area, so no property was destroyed.

It was a good night. I was 22. I probably saw 73 boobs.

Santana / Counting Crows @ Kia Forum 2024-08-28

Counting Crows - boring, and they played like 72 mins

Santana - great, though he was sitting / leaning most of the time. Band was killer. Wife is a beast on drums, wonder if the was the one who broke his back

Last night Mike Garson & Gaby Moreno at Sun Rose, Bowie's pianist with a revolving door of guest vocalists. Always great but the ambient noise from the bar was so loud and overbearing that the next time they he has a guest that commands $100 tickets I think I will just get a job and watch from there.

Also walked by the Whisky to my friend's free parking spot 1 1/2 mile from the club and heard KK's Priest doing Sinner. If not for the bus / trailer / truck creating an Auschwitz like condition I might have stayed and listened to the rest of the show.

Teenage bottlerocket last night at crossroads in garwood NJ. The band was en route to Brockton today for NOFX’s punk and drublic festival shows before heading to Japan next week. Band is the closest thing to the Ramones you can get, played 15 something songs rapid fire. The last time I saw them in NJ was at asbury lanes a few times a decade ago. You can tell everyone in the crowd is older now (I’m 36 and felt young) not much movement, zero stage dives, they managed to get one circle pit. Venue is great, reminds me of going to maxwells. Opener was female fronted “the last gang” also on Fat. They were tight but forgettable, sounded like tsunami bomb or insert female fronted punk band. Glad I got on the list, not really worth $25 these days for two bands and literally zero crowd interaction, whole thing was over by 10:15.

Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid PNC Park

Rancid - I forgot how big they were for a couple of seconds in the mid-90s. I had them, in my mind, about on the level with Bad Religion or NOFX as a band that almost broke into real mainstream success but after seeing/hearing "Ruby Soho" work in a baseball stadium I had to wiki their album sales.

Smashing Pumpkins - never seen them before. Very unconventional. Billy mixes the superhits to appease 30,000 people (duh) with songs from albums that virtually no one in the place knows. Great set though. The chick singer helps. The drummer is a beast. The "newer" stuff was actually really good and quite heavy/atmospheric. Just weird. Literally had NWA wrestling match on stage during encore.

Green Day - handles stadium crowd even better than Grohl. You'd think 37 songs would wear a crowd down but they had 'em up in their seats for 2 1/2 hours.

All in all a good night out.

Styx - 8/31/2024 Prairie Knights Casino, FT Yates ND

House was full as the band kicked off almost immediately with their biggest hits. This is my first time seeing the band with new bass player who is the brother of Lawrence Gown. Also was a newer guitar player that happens to be their producer of their last two albums. Great to see another producer finessing their way into a legendary bed a.k.a. John Shanks. Band played for close to an 1: 40 minutes and honestly their presentation is so damn tight and will produced. “Crystal Ball” is so killer. Tommy Shaw still does a great job while routinely switching guitars throughout the evening.

St. Vincent 9/5/2024 MGM Music Fenway Boston - We had great seats for this, which included access to a private bar/restaurant/toilets, which always makes a show better. I didn't know a lot about her going in, other than she worked with David Byrne, so I listened to the popular stuff. Her live show, like her music, is very dramatic but well executed. She's certainly a gifted singer, dancer & guitar player. Also, she was blessed with great genes as she has a beautiful face & legs for days. I know a lot of folks on the board love the band Jellyfish so it's worth noting that her guitar player is Jason Falkner.

Pearl Jam 9/17/24 Fenway Park Boston - My wife is a big fan so I've seen em once each tour for many years, they never disappoint & last night was no exception. Such a great live band, Stone Gossard & Mike McCready don't get name checked near enough as they are quality guitar players. Setlist was solid as they played a ton of the old stuff while dropping in a few covers/new/rare ones. Of note, they still have former RHCP guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, aka the "driver who was texting & drove over someone & killed them while they were in a cross walk" on multi instrument duty.

Beat at the Grove of Anaheim, 9/15. For the uninitiated, it’s Adrian Belew and Tony Levin from 80s era King Crimson with Steve Vai and Danny Carey.

I’ve worn a few drag costumes over the years so I was the closest thing to a female in the entire place, but the show absolutely ripped. Never listened to King Crimson until a couple weeks ago. I’ve now heard four of their albums and saw this show and consider myself a fan.

Welcome aboard & happy listening as KC, & the musicians that have passed through, have played on a TON of stuff. I'm assuming you have listened to Discipline, Beat & Three of a Perfect Pair? Those are the Adrian Belew records and the most "conventional" stuff KC has ever done. I first saw them on the Three of a Perfect Pair tour & several times since. I also have tickets for "Beat" & can't wait!

Cake - San Antonio, 9/12/24

Wow, not Motley levels of horrible, but in the same ballpark. I don't know if they were having an off night, if the singer was a little more drunk than usual, or if they just suck live but what a disappointment. I've always dug these guys but boy did they eat shit last night. The singer rambled about doing two sets and not having an opener and the songs sounded like they were being played underwater while the singer couldn't stay in time or in tune. I'm deaf in one ear which means I'm as tone deaf as it gets, so when I can tell you're out of tune, it's got to be really bad. He says they're taking an intermission after the sixth song, about 35 minutes into the set and just when I think it can't get any worse, he does the most hackneyed "divide the crowd in half and make them sing" bit that I thought was lame and played out when I saw Joe Elliott do it in 1987. that was my cue to leave.

$67 (including service fees) that I'll never get back, but I can't say I'm angry about it. I think most of us understand that when you go to a lot of shows, you're going to see a dud every once in a while. Since covid I've been to around 50 shows and counting this one I've been disappointed by three. Pretty good odds if you ask me.

Cooper/Zombie/Ministry/Filter, Austin TX, 9/14/24

Caught this show at an amphitheater in Austin. It was right next to a Formula 1 racetrack in an amusement part. No puppet show unfortunately. I'd never been to this place before and generally stay away from outdoor gigs, especially in Texas, but me and my girlfriend decided to take the plunge. We're both big Coop fans and she's a huge Zombie fan (me, not so much) The parking (free,) staff, seating was all great. Water was $4 a bottle. There was surprising very little security but I didn't see a single fight or skirmish. The place holds 14,000 and was at least 85% full. Filter and Ministry weren't part of any of the advertising I'd seen for this leg of the tour and I assumed it would just be Cooper and Zombie so I was pleasantly surprised to see Filter playing when we got there, and a good chunk of the crowd was already there, it was probably around 75% capacity at that point. They were solid, workmanlike and I don't mean that as in insult. I never got into them but they sounded good and Richard Patrick seemed appreciative and happy to be there. They ended their set of course with Hey Man, Nice Shot. Next up was Ministry. I had a couple friends in the 90's who were really into these guys but they never really clicked with me, but they put on a damn good show. I knew a couple of the more popular songs, but the new ones they played sounded pretty good too. Al Jourgensen is a damn good frontman. Fog machines and daylight aren't the best match, but I still walked away impressed and will probably check out more of their stuff. Up next is Alice.

This was my fifth Alice show, the last time I saw him was a couple years ago when Kane was in the band, and he changed the stage show quite a bit. A shorter set, but they were on fire from the start. He brought back the bit where he stabs the photographer which I don't think I'd seen live before. We usually get a couple of rairites but this time it was only He's Back, which I was thrilled with. He brought out the snake when he did Snakebite. Other than that and the requisite Poison, Hey Stoopid and Feed My Frankenstein and Black Widow Jam everything else was pretty much ACB songs. He did Dwight Fry which he hadn't done the last couple times I'd seen him and we got the guillotine. Cheryl was dressed in some big Marie Antionette dress throughout most of the show, except when Jason killed her in He's Back where she was a schoolgirl. All in all, another great Alice show for the books. He's one that I'll go see every time he's in town. Zombie closed the show in very Rob Zombie like fashion. I'm not a huge fan, but the show was solid. The visuals were a bit much in my opinion, but I know that's part of his shtick. He looked and sounded great, though I don't know how live his performance was, but he checked all the Rock Star boxes and the crowd was really into it. My girlfriend has seen him multiple times over the years and said last night he was as good as he's ever been.

Thank you, happy to be here! I have an uncle who used to play with Robert Fripp informally way back when, but for some reason never bothered checking them out until recently.

Yes - Discipline, Beat, and Three of a Perfect Pair. Listened to all three after the show, and I listened to the first record a couple weeks ago even though I knew none of it would be played at the show.

I’m a big Tool fan and moderately into Primus. They’ve both admitted to blatantly ripping off KC over the years, so I got a good laugh during the show at just how blatant a lot of it is (Elephant Talk —-> Jerry Was A Race Car Driver, etc.)

Enjoy the show. I’m sure you already know it’s gonna be terrific, but it really is!

Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band/9/18/24/Chevalier Theatre, Medford Ma/1900 capacity - He's Ringo, he's a Beatle & he still has teenage girls shrieking for him. I know this because 2 of them (maybe 14 yo?) were sitting behind me. Just the two of them, no parents, with all their Ringo swag, singing all the words to not only the Ringo songs, but most all the songs played that night. Sold out show, a buddy of mine wanted in & the cheapest single seat was $450 on the secondary market. Steve Lukather did Africa, Rosanna & Hold the Line & Colin Hay did Down Under, Overkill & Who Can It Be Now, all with Ringo on drums. Well, accompanying Greg Bissonnette but still, it's Ringo & he's 84! Closing with A Little Help From My Friends into Give Peace a Chance was a perfect end, I'm so glad I went.
One thing I thought was especially cool was the drum solo. GB played famous drum parts (YYZ, Rock n Roll by LZ etc.) along with Steve on guitar https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tj3yKN-J ... ture=share
