Same for me.
It's actually the only IM album where I won't skip any track.

I went with the S/T also . It’s got no real filler tracks on it. Though ,I have been listening to the complete version of Maiden Japan the most .

Killers and it's not even close. Sanctuary and Running Free are the only good tracks on the s/t, the rest is just... bland. Remember how disappointed I was when I had Killers and NotB and a ticket to the upcoming Piece of Mind tour and finally got to hear the s/t at a friend's. Couldn't believe it was the same band.

Edit. Keep forgetting Remember Tomorrow which is good. Maybe because I listened a lot more to it as a live b-side from NotB with Bruce.

There's no Maiden album without filler.

S/T has Charlotte and Iron Maiden
Killers has Twilight Zone, Prodigal Son (although that solo section almost saves it) and Drifter

Both fantastic albums though.

Correct. 7th Son MAY be an exception, but on the other hand there's no real standout track on it.
I don't think any song on there became one of their must-play live tunes either.

They also played the shit out of The Clairvoyant for years up until Bruce left. Sounded shit in the Gers era.
There's only two albums between 7th Son and when Bruce left. So what you are saying is that they played The Clairvoyant on the 7th Son, No Prayer and Fear of the Dark tours.

Holy shit, never realised! Statistics from setlist.fm for the 7th Son album:
The Evil That Men Do (866)
The Clairvoyant (680)
Can I Play With Madness (403)

It must be because of the bassintro, right? Fuckin Harris.

I love Remember Tomorrow, but I went with Killers.

Better songs, better production, better cover (marginally!).

I was thinking about how the first three are comparable to the original Star Wars trilogy.

Iron Maiden = Star Wars. New, exciting, game-changer, instantly popular, inspired a thousand copycats.
Killers = Empire. Developing the theme. Slower and more thoughtful than the the flashy, in-your-face debut.
NOTB = ROTJ. No Ewoks were harmed in the making of that album but it was definitely the start of Iron Maiden the brand, which eventually took over from Iron Maiden the band. Brand consolidation included replacing the "punky" singer with a traditional heavy metal wailer.

Others can debate if that makes Blaze = Jar Jar.

I voted Killers, BTW.

Close call. The Star Wars analogy is a good one. I would also compare them to Ride the Light and Master of Puppets. Sister albums with the latter being a slightly deeper and more mature version of the former. In this case I voted Killers although I prefer RTL over MoP

Killers is their best album, period. But I can see why people would vote for self titled, there are some classics on there.

Guessing I'm in the vast minority, but I never got the love for those 2 albums. They're fine, but what followed just blew those out of the water.

I did love Pauls voice on those (and still prefer it to Bruce) There was just something missing with the songwriting that they figured out with NOTB

Adrian and Bruce started writing songs.
And later influenced Harris - Aces High sounds like Harris writing a Smith/Dickinson song and doing a great job on it.

S/T has some great songs and attitude, but Killers has great songs with one of metal's tastiest guitarists in Adrian Smith playing on them. Also, Purgatory is the greatest thing they've ever done. Listened to both at work today along with Maiden Japan, that band was a fucking monster.

No, the vast majority preferred and purchased Number / Piece / Powerslave, myself included!

Personally, I prefer Bruce's voice, it's just deeper and more powerful. No one wins the Paul vs Bruce debate, it's just a matter of personal taste. (Someone wins the Bruce/Paul vs Blaze debate, though)

As for the songwriting, indeed, they kicked it up a massive notch on Number. Those were the glorious days when bands would give it their all for 8 or 9 killer songs instead of 11 or 13 lesser-quality songs. Blame it on the CD format!

Great sounding production and better songs.

And for the record: Twilight Zone is NOT filler! It's a great hooky, punky song!
