Very good.

Yungblud is interesting, he wears his influences on his sleeves … it’s good to see Freddie Mercury, Scott Weiland, Jagger, etc. moves onstage again from a young guy.

That didn't suck. I saw Tyler in the title, but not Joe Perry, so when Joe Perry walked out I had a genuine "oh shit!" moment.

I don’t think Joe learned the song at all, he was just there to be seen.

Nuno was awesome as always.

Yungblud was wearing Iggy Pop’s pants he gave him and a necklace from Ozzy.

I don't know why, but Yungblud annoys me.

Well, I do know why: it's that Adam Lambert-esque showboating over-the-top thing, that people think is Freddie Mercury-esque, but he always did it with a wink in the eye and (I think) understood it was ridiculous, at times.
Although he has a good voice, Changes wasn't meant to be oversung or turned into a bombastic singalong -- it's power is in how subdued and sad it was. Arranging it that way shows he doesn't have a clue about it.

Glad Ozzy got the attention he deserved, but when they cut to 20 year old chicks in the audience and these other vacuous people, I don't think they have a clue. And there is some part of me, as a bona fide metalhead, that doesn't like phonies jumping on the Ozzy bandwagon.

Steven Tyler sounded OK.
Nuno as always sounded great.

I sound old and bitter -- because I am.

Dan Hawkins from The Darkness posted a clip of the performance and made this post, which comes off as strange.

Another nail in the coffin of rock n roll. Cynical, nauseating and more importantly; shit.

Makes me sick how people jump on this shit to further their own careers. #whatabunchofcunts

I'm not sure how it's a nail in the coffin of rock & roll considering MTV didn't even have to acknowledge Ozzy at all. Had MTV not done that tribute, people would bitch about MTV ignoring Ozzy. Some people can't be happy about anything.

That was awesome. Tyler, that ageless bastard! I wondered why he didnt do any ozzy at the july show, but he killed it here.
Why wasnt Nuno ever Ozzys guitarist, since he was on everything in july and is back here?

Apparently, they really tried to blow it out this year, simulcast on CBS for the first time and streamed on Paramount Plus.

I had no idea it was occurring either until I saw someone mention it compared to the Bills/Ravens game last night.

Thought it was nice of Tyler and Perry to pull Joey Kramer out of mothballs to play drums for this.

Wow, they threw Joe Perry into the shower and brushed his hair. Lol. 😂 He looked like he was a street vagrant ready for a feature on the Lizard Hunter Channel on YouTube on the latest tour he just finished.

MTV obviously went to Central casting to find extras to appear in the crowd. You know not one of those girls could name Ozzys infamous guitar player that was tragically killed back in 1982. nor could they name the title of a single solo Ozzy album..

Yungblud gets a lot of hate, but he actually killed it. Good for him..

Nuno did such a great job at BTTB that he is now the official guitar player for all things Sharon, so good for him on that one. I like him better than Zakk.

I thought the same thing. There's no way the VMA demographic twenty-somethings would know any of the words to those songs.

They asked him to be in Ozzy's band around 1995 but he said no....

"It finally worked, and I turned it down, because I was in a band, and I was doing my job. And that was the stupidest thing I ever did. Why? Because I left Extreme about two weeks later. I was like, 'I'm an idiot.' I could have toured with Ozzy, and been on the next album… Because, playing with Ozzy was almost a rite of passage, like you were the chosen one… If Ozzy chose you, you were somebody… But, I was trying to carve my own path, and be my own person. I don't know what I was thinking; I should have done it."

The 20 year old chicks seemed to know the songs abd lyrics. Plus it was cool to see other artists you might not expect to be into it enjoying themselves likev Ariana Grande https://www.instagram.com/reel/DOU1wg_g ... R1NGxjZg==

I wasn’t crazy about Tyler singing “I’m coming” repeatedly like it was a sex song.

Yungblud is a little much for me probably because I’m old, bald and straight but the wife and daughter love him … he sounded good though, the best performance of the show.

I don't have any problem with that. It just helps the band look cooler to people. Maybe some other 20 year old is gonna see that and go, "oh they know the lyrics, maybe I should check this band out." It's certainly better than panning the crowd and having people with a blank stare or being on their phones. You don't need to know who Randy Rhoads was to enjoy "Crazy Train."

It's like when people bitch about some 20 year old actor wearing a Metallica shirt and going "I bet they can't name 2 Metallica songs." Who gives a fuck? It's exposure. Youngblood comes of as a total Poser. I thought the same during Back to the Beginning and this performance has done nothing to change my opinion of him

I don’t know how people can draw comparisons to Freddie and Weiland . It is absurd for people to even think that in my opinion

Someone mentioned that the beauty of Changes was its subtlety . Absolutely. There was nothing subtle about this performance

Steve Tyler , Joe Perry, Nuno - although great musicians - are the wrong choice to cover Ozzy . I never understood why Tyler and Sammy were asked to perform at Ozzy’s farewell either . They were not influenced by Ozzy and nothing they have recorded in their career has ever been close to the musical ballpark of Ozzy or Sabbath.

Ozzy is METAL . And none of the guys on stage are METAL. This performance was a joke !

Wow, this place.

A rock legend gets a proper tribute on MTV with an artist who actually appeals to Gen Z and introduces the genre to the younger audience.

Yet people here complain how the audience don’t know any Ozzy songs (yes, they are young, so Ozzy prolly has not been on their radar…besides, It’s a damn TV show, not a test who is the tr00 rock fan). And complain about the younger demos leaning artist to be a poser! A poser? On a 80s hair metal message board.

Jeez.

Not sure what the deal is with the Darkness Hawkinses being such grouches lately. Justin’s YouTube podcast has pretty much turned into him sneering at people and it seems his brother isn’t much different.

Its a bunch of old people playing dress-up.

He seems like an actor playing a bad-boy rock star. His swagger is pretty much like when Sebastian Stan played Tommy Lee...nothing authentic about it at all.

These kids these days don't do enough of the right kind of drugs to get in the right zone. It's all just theater kids who grew up on K-Pop and Disney at this point.

1000% this.

Without the tongue in cheek aspect, you're just a douche. It's what I can't stand about Adam Lambert and I get what you're saying about this dude, even though it's the first time I've ever seen him.

Steven sounded good when he was able to play with the melody and sing the higher parts. It was a bit low for him at first. Also, Yungblud doing the Steven Tyler shit when he's next to the real fucking Steven Tyler should be punishable by firing squad.

The new generation of famous artists all come from middle-class or rich backgrounds, and they all pretend to come from the streets.

There's always been an element of that in rock and roll, but nowadays its pretty much all rich kids doing cosplay.

It's all fake.

well, yes you do.

But, look, if I was a marketing executive or interested in furthering the "brand" of Metallica or Ozzy, I wouldn't be such a cunt about it.
It's more about being genuine and authentic, rather than a fucking trendy poser.

for instance, I was dating this cute redhead chick with big tits who loved wearing vintage T-shirts like Bowie and others, whom she knew NOTHING about: it was the vintage T-shirt idea, and the cool kids were wearing it, so she felt compelled to as well.
I found it annoying. Not annoying enough to stop fucking her, mind you. But her phoniness grated on me. And -- once I had indulged in sufficient tit fucking -- I had to let her go because of my (understandable) intolerance of vintage t-shirt wearing fucks.

That said, I do agree that if some clueless dickhead is wearing a Dio shirt, and it gets some other kid to go explore and genuinely appreciate Dio (provided he goes no further than Last in Line), then there some good outcome of it. But we still shouldn't support it.

Yungblud's vocals sound real thin. Like he doesn't have much range and they won't age well if he does the screamo thing. I give him props for having the Bas headbang, shirtless Axl primping and semi-chaotic stage presence, combined with the Tyler wailing. He may be a poser but if this brings some fricking soul to the antiseptic music scene of Gen z, that's cool. No tapes allowed!

My goodness, Nuno is golden guitarist we should all cherish. If he can inspire this Gen to come back to the guitar, there's hope. He's the very best there is right now. Simply amazing.

Tyler ripping that at nearly age 80 is also remarkable. Be happy that MTV gave enough s#it to do it and not ignore him like they did EVH. That was a disgrace.
