Primus had three platinum records and one gold record, two of which were top ten, so they did pretty well.

I only heard one of their Stern interviews when 1985 came out. They came across well. Howard was always complimentary of them.
Besides that after being dropped by Atco, they got picked up by Arista (Clive Davis) so that was as good as it was gonna get. Oh..and they were on Letterman too!
All I can think is that MTV only played New Thing and Fly High Michelle. I never saw Mother's Eyes, Baby Loves You or Right By Your Side.
Also, as mentioned, they were more power pop than arena rock so if they came out later, they may have toured with bands like Gin Blossoms. But it wasn't meant to be.
I remember Mother’s Eyes and BLY being played briefly for one hot second in 1991. I don’t remember RBYS from Animals. Maybe saw it once.
Acto should’ve released For Now, Kiss The Clown and I Could Never Be Without You as follow up singles at MTV and radio.

Okay, that’s fair. They still weren’t Nirvana or the Chili Peppers. Far from it.Hellsinkey wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 9:03 pm Primus had three platinum records and one gold record, two of which were top ten, so they did pretty well.
I should’ve said Living Colour

EVERY song on here is awesome. Zero filler.
The title track should've been MASSIVE. Unreal how great that song is.
I would've picked "Baby Loves You" as the lead single, followed by either "Strength" or "Goodbye" as the obligatory ballad second single. WITH NO SPARK FACTORIES IN THE VIDEOS.![]()
Between that and the media power of Gerri Miller, this classic album would've sold HUNDREDS more copies.
I can’t disagree with any of this. Strength has an unreal depth chart. I didn’t mind watching the Jets and the Sharks battle outside the spark factory

This combined with the worst bandname ever in rockFreddyFender wrote: ↑Wed Sep 17, 2025 7:48 am Oh, I can say for sure why they didn't make it: people didn't like their music.
To 99.9999% of people, its glaringly obvious.

Does anyone know the story on their ? (question mark) album from '04? It says that it is a collection of songs from previous years, but I can't find details on exactly when each track is pulled from. Supposedly, some tracks are from the "Animals..." sessions but I can't really tell by listening which ones that might be. Has there ever been a breakdown on this?

One of my favorite EZN albums! As far as I know, there's some Animals outtakes and a lot from a project they called Vitamin A, which I think was supposed to be EZN under a fake name to either get airplay or pitch songs to other bands, maybe both. But I think the idea was to ditch the EZN name and the hair metal stigma. I may be way off, I'm sure there are some Z'Nuff scholars that can correct me on this, or maybe Donnie can set the record strait [sic].Total Ass wrote: ↑Fri Sep 19, 2025 5:36 am Does anyone know the story on their ? I think "Home Tonight" is from those sessions and that might be my favorite song they ever did.

Johnny Monaco had a podcast some years ago and it was one of the funniest podcasts I've ever heard. He did this character that was like a cross between Chip and Trump, I can't remember the name, Trump Z'Nuff or something. Some light ballbusting, I think they had some conflict at the time.Black Stuff wrote: ↑Fri Sep 19, 2025 5:44 am Shoulda had Monaco there also. He kept the thing alive for a while
Those guys are just the embodiment of the Midwest and the Chicago area in particular, I think that has always been a big appeal for me.
Chip is like a Muppet, I love that guy. Says stuff like "The trim was incendiary."
Edit: I think I remember the motivation for Vitamin A. Maybe sending demos to record companies to see if they'd have interest without the EZN name attached? Something like that. Who knows with these guys. Who knows why madmen do what they do.
